Science Grade 6

MYP Level 1 

 

MYP Aims and Objectives

In the 6th grade, students will begin their discovery of MYP Science. Our learners will understand global effects of science discoveries, communicate using scientific language, continue exploration of scientific concepts and knowledge, practice scientific inquiry, continue to learn ways to process data, and explore attitudes in science.   All IB units and lessons will be closely aligned with district learning schedules and state standards in order to ensure student readiness for this examination. The aims of the Middle Years Programme in Science are to:

  • Develop inquiring minds and curiosity about science and the natural world.
  • Acquire knowledge, conceptual understanding and skills to solve problems and make informed decisions in scientific and other contexts.
  • Develop skills of scientific inquiry to design and carry out scientific investigations and evaluate scientific evidence to draw conclusions.
  • Communicate scientific ideas, arguments and practical experiences accurately in a variety of ways scientific and other contexts.
  • Think analytically; critically and creatively to solve problems, judge arguments and make decisions in scientific and other contexts.
  • Appreciate the benefits and limitations of science and its application in technological developments. 

 

Science Grade 7

 

MYP Aims and Objectives

In the 7th grade, students will continue their discovery of MYP Science. Our learners will understand global effects of science discoveries, communicate using scientific language, continue exploration of scientific concepts and knowledge, practice scientific inquiry, continue to learn ways to process data, and explore attitudes in science.   All IB units and lessons will be closely aligned with district learning schedules and state standards in order to ensure student readiness for this examination. The aims of the Middle Years Programme in Science are to:

  • Develop curiosity, interest and enjoyment towards science and its methods of inquiry
  • Acquire scientific knowledge and understanding
  • Communicate scientific ideas, arguments and practical experiences effectively in a variety of ways
  • Develop experimental and investigative skills to design and carry out scientific investigations and to evaluate evidence to draw a conclusion
  • Develop critical, create and inquiring minds that pose questions, solve problems, construct explanations, judge arguments and make informed decisions in scientific and other contexts
  • Develop awareness of the possibilities and limitations of science and appreciate that scientific knowledge is evolving through collaborative activity locally and internationally
  • Appreciate the relationship between science and technology and their role in society
  • Develop awareness of the moral, ethical, social, economic, political, cultural and environmental implications of the practice and use of science and technology
  • Observe safety rules and practices to ensure a safe working environment during scientific activities
  • Engender an awareness of the need for and the value of effective collaboration during scientific activities

 

Science Grade 8

MYP level 3

 

MYP Aims and Objectives

In the 8th grade, students will continue their discovery of MYP Science. Our learners will understand global effects of science discoveries, communicate using scientific language, continue exploration of scientific concepts and knowledge, practice scientific inquiry, continue to learn ways to process data, and explore attitudes in science. Students will finalize their preparation for the science FCAT (Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test) which they will take in the eighth grade.  All IB units and lessons will be closely aligned with district learning schedules and sunshine state standards in order to ensure student readiness for this examination. The aims of the Middle Years Programme in Science are to:

  • Develop curiosity, interest and enjoyment towards science and its methods of inquiry
  • Apply scientific knowledge and understanding
  • Communicate scientific ideas, arguments and practical experiences effectively in a variety of ways
  • Apply experimental and investigative skills to design and carry out scientific investigations and to evaluate evidence to draw a conclusion
  • Apply critical, create and inquiring minds that pose questions, solve problems, construct explanations, judge arguments and make informed decisions in scientific and other contexts
  • Apply awareness of the possibilities and limitations of science and appreciate that scientific knowledge is evolving through collaborative activity locally and internationally
  • Appreciate the relationship between science and technology and their role in society
